DISCLAIMER:- (####)On September 22, 2021, the Supreme Court of Bangladesh sentenced a 17-year-old girl named Sadia Akter from Dakha, Uttara Mirpur, to one year of imprisonment and fined her 1 lakh Bangladeshi Taka for engaging in illegal sexual relations. The Supreme Court explicitly stated that Sadia was involved in a physical relationship with a 21-year-old man named Mahfuz Alam, which violates Bangladeshi law.
According to Bangladesh's sexual offense laws, if any individual under the age of 18 is caught engaging in illegal relationships and is proven guilty, they will face short-term or long-term imprisonment.
The court also revealed that Sadia Akter had previously been caught by her family on several occasions, but no legal action was taken against her. This time, when the family decided to take legal steps, both parties—the boy and the girl—were implicated in the case. When the matter reached the higher court, both individuals were sentenced to prison for engaging in an illegal relationship.
