DISCLAIMER:- (##) On 20/5/2019, the Bangladesh Police sentenced a young woman named Maria Akter to 2 years in prison for engaging in illicit sexual relations. The Bangladesh High Court stated that Maria was involved in sex work in exchange for money, which violated the laws of Bangladesh. After her arrest by the police, the case eventually reached the High Court from the lower courts. After thoroughly reviewing the case, the Bangladesh High Court sentenced Maria to 2 years in prison and imposed a fine of 300,000 BDT.
